Norway is one of those markets where EV deals change quickly, and right now two large Chinese electric SUVs are on interesting leasing offers: the BYD Tang and the Xpeng G9. They both target similar buyers on paper, but they take noticeably different approaches when it comes to space, technology, and everyday usability.
BYD Tang 4×4 – 7-seat family electric SUV
The BYD Tang is built very much with practicality in mind. It’s a big, three-row SUV that focuses on space first, and performance second — although it still has plenty of power.
Under the skin, you get a 108.8 kWh Blade LFP battery paired with a dual-motor AWD setup producing 380 kW (509 hp). That’s enough for a 0–100 km/h time of roughly 4.9 seconds, which is really quick for something this size. Range is rated at up to 530 km WLTP, and its based on a 400V electrical architecture, meaning charging speeds are solid but not class-leading compared to newer 800V systems.

Where the Tang really stands out is space. You get 7 seats as standard, and it’s one of the few EVs in this segment that can genuinely handle full family duty. Boot space starts at around 235 litres with all seats up, but expands to over 1,600 litres when the rear rows are folded. There is no frunk.

Xpeng G9 – technology-first large SUV
The Xpeng G9 takes a slightly different direction. Instead of focusing on maximum seating capacity, it goes heavily into technology and charging performance. It’s built on an 800V architecture, which is one of its biggest advantages. In practice, this means significantly faster DC charging compared to most rivals in this segment.

Depending on version, you get battery options 79 kWh or 93.1 kWh, with up to roughly 570 km WLTP range. Power output goes up to around 405 kW (551 hp) in dual-motor versions. Inside, the G9 is a 5-seat SUV, but it compensates with a very spacious cabin and a large 660-litre boot. It also includes a small frunk of about 71 litres, which the Tang doesn’t offer.

Leasing deals in Norway
Both models are currently part of aggressive leasing campaigns in Norway, which is why they’ve suddenly become much more visible in the market.
BYD Tang leasing offer
The BYD Tang is offered with:
- Monthly lease from 5,999 NOK (552 €)
- 3-year contract period
- Initial payment of 152,110 NOK (13,980 €)
- Total lease cost of 373,359 NOK (34,330 €) over the full period
- Includes a high-spec “Flagship” equipment package at no extra cost (worth roughly 119,000 NOK)
What this effectively means is that you’re getting a fully loaded 7-seat SUV for a relatively low monthly entry point, considering its size and performance.
Xpeng G9 campaign
Xpeng is currently running a more finance-focused campaign for the G9 in Norway, combining direct customer savings with a subsidised interest rate.

The campaign includes:
- Customer savings of up to 80,000 NOK (7,356 €)
- Subsidised 2.99% interest rate for the first 3 years
- Campaign valid until 30 June 2026
One of the highlighted examples on the official Xpeng Norway website is the G9 AWD Performance finished in white metallic and including a tow hitch:
- Vehicle price: 639,900 NOK (58,836 €)
- Equity/down payment: 99,100 NOK (9,112 €)
- Monthly payment: 6,490 NOK (597 €)
- Financing term: 96 months (8 years)
- Nominal interest rate: 2.99%
- Effective interest rate: 3.57%
- Total credit cost: 81,687 NOK (7,510 €)
- Total repayment amount: 621,527 NOK (57,147 €)
The offer also includes subsidised interest for the first three years before normal market rates apply.
Unlike the BYD Tang deal, which focuses more on low monthly leasing cost and included equipment, the Xpeng campaign is built around subsidised financing and lower ownership entry cost.
Leasing vs financing – the biggest difference
One important detail here is that these two offers are not actually the same type of financing.

The BYD Tang campaign is structured as a traditional leasing deal. After the 3-year period, the vehicle is returned unless there is a separate buyout agreement. The Xpeng G9 campaign, on the other hand, is structured like a private vehicle loan. That means the buyer is gradually paying off the car and becomes the owner once the 8-year financing period ends.
This changes the value equation quite a bit. The BYD offer focuses on lower short-term monthly cost and easier access to a large EV, while the Xpeng offer is ownership-oriented.
