The BYD Tang is a full-size AWD electric SUV manufactured by the Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto. It offers seven seats, with an option to fold flat 2nd and 3rd rows for more cargo space. There's also a rear seats option for a 60/40 split for greater flexibility.
Just as any other BYD EV for the European market, the Tang utilizes a new proprietary lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery design (Blade battery) that takes up less space than a conventional LFP battery of the same capacity. Blade battery is also safer against thermal runaway even in case of damage. The battery has 86.4 kWh capacity and the manufacturer claims it can reach up to 400 km on a single charge, but keep in mind that depends on one's driving habits. It supports fast charging, going from 30% to 80% charge in 30 minutes. The powertrain consists of dual electric motors, offering 510 hp and 680 Nm of torque. Although with an almost 2.5-tonne curb weight, the Tang accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The top speed is 180 km/h.
The high-quality 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits at the center of the dashboard, dominating the interior. It can be positioned in portrait or landscape mode, which is convenient when using navigation. All functions are controlled from here, including climate control. The interior quality can easily compete with Tesla, although it is not as luxurious as Mercedes or Audi interiors. The driver has a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel. Competing directly with the Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7, the BYD Tang offers comparable build quality and luxury but at a significantly lower price.
The BYD Tang is currently available in Sweden and Denmark. Here's the price overview:
