Geely Auto Europe officially confirmed that the Geely E2 electric hatchback is coming to European markets. The announcement was made without a launch date or pricing, but the car itself is already well known. In China, it is sold as the Geely Galaxy Xingyuan and was the single best-selling car in the country in 2025, across all fuel types and price points. In the first five months of 2026, it continued to lead China’s sales rankings with 160,800 units delivered.

The model already sells outside China under two names. In the UK, it will arrive in late August 2026 as the Geely EX2 at a starting price expected to be under £20,000. For the European Union, it will carry the E2 name. Pricing and a specific EU launch date had not been confirmed at the time of writing.

Geely is one of the most significant Chinese automotive groups globally, with Volvo, Zeekr, Polestar, Smart and Lotus all under the same ownership umbrella. The E2 is a separate, more affordable product aimed directly at the European city car and compact hatchback segment.

What Kind of Car Is the Geely E2?

The E2 is a compact electric hatchback, 4,135 mm long, 1,805 mm wide and 1,580 mm tall, on a 2,650 mm wheelbase. That puts it squarely in the same size category as the Renault Twingo E-Tech and the BYD Dolphin Surf, both of which I’ve compared in detail here. It sits below Geely’s existing European model, the Geely EX5 SUV, in both size and likely price.

The design is clean and contemporary. Geely describes it as “cute” styling with a closed front end, teardrop-shaped LED headlights described as feather-inspired, semi-concealed door handles and 16-inch alloy wheels. The roofline has a mild fastback character. The cabin centres on a 14.6-inch touchscreen, which is a generous screen size for a car in this class. Geely says the chassis has been specifically tuned for European roads.

One interior feature worth noting: the E2 comes with both a frunk and a rear boot. The frunk holds 70 litres, which is unusual for a small hatchback and considerably more useful than the token storage spaces many cars in this class provide. The rear boot holds 375 litres with the seats up, expanding to 1,320 litres with seats folded in the UK specification.

Battery, Range and Charging

The E2 uses a 39.4 kWh battery paired with an 85 kW (114 hp) rear-mounted motor. WLTP range for the EU version is 317 km, confirmed by official specification data. The UK EX2 is rated at up to 214 miles (344 km) WLTP.

DC fast charging peaks at 60 kW on the base specification, giving a 30-80% charge in around 25 minutes. Higher specifications support up to 80 kW DC. AC charging specifications for EU markets had not been officially confirmed at time of writing. The 0-100 km/h acceleration is 10.2 seconds and top speed is not yet confirmed for European spec.

A notable safety feature is the Shendun battery safety system, which Geely highlights as part of a 36-point built-in safety package. The system is designed to manage thermal events and protect the battery under stress. Euro NCAP testing had not taken place at the time of writing.

Warranty

Geely’s warranty package for the E2 is one of the more comprehensive in this segment and worth understanding before comparing the car against rivals on price alone. The vehicle, battery and drive motor all carry the same eight-year or 200,000 km warranty, which is a notably consistent set of terms. BYD, for comparison, offers six years on the vehicle and eight years on the battery, with different mileage limits across the two. Geely is applying the same ceiling to all three main components.

Roadside assistance runs for four years from registration. Paint is covered for three years or 60,000 km. Anti-corrosion protection extends to twelve years or 200,000 km. Connectivity is included for the first two years of ownership: 4G data at 2 GB per month for year one and 2 GB per month continuing into year two.

Where It Fits in the Market

The E2 enters a segment that is becoming one of the most competitive in European EVs. The Volkswagen ID.Polo and its rivals define the upper end of the affordable hatchback space. The Renault Twingo E-Tech and BYD Dolphin Surf represent the more accessible end. The Leapmotor B03X, which opened European orders from €23,400, is a direct size and price rival.

The E2’s 70-litre frunk, rear-wheel-drive layout, large touchscreen and competitive battery size give it a reasonable spec to work with. The question, as always with new brands entering Europe, is whether the after-sales infrastructure, software updates and dealer network can match what established rivals already have in place. Geely has been selling the EX5 in Europe and has a dealer presence in several markets, which reduces the cold-start problem somewhat.

Competitors in Europe

The E2 will compete primarily in the compact affordable EV bracket, where buyers are choosing between size, range, price and brand familiarity.

The BYD Dolphin Surf starts from around €19,990 in France, has a five-star Euro NCAP rating, V2L as standard and 322 km WLTP on the Boost trim. It has been on sale in Europe since 2024 and has an established service network in most markets.

The Renault Twingo E-Tech starts from €19,490 in France, offers 263 km WLTP, a sliding rear seat, a 360-litre boot and V2G capability with the optional 11 kW charger. It’s built in Slovenia and benefits from Renault’s European dealer coverage.

The Leapmotor B03X starts from €23,400 in France and offers up to 382 km WLTP on the 53 kWh variant, with 133 kW DC charging and a 510-litre boot including the underfloor compartment. It is built in Spain through the Stellantis network.

The Citroen e-C3 starts from around €19,990 in most markets, offers around 320 km WLTP and is built in Slovakia. It lacks a frunk and has limited driver assistance compared to Chinese rivals, but benefits from Citroen’s pan-European dealer and service infrastructure.

At £20,000 in the UK, the EX2 also competes with the Leapmotor T03 and Dacia Spring on price, though each has different payload and range trade-offs.

A Global Car With Local Ambitions

The broader context for the E2’s European launch is worth understanding. The Geely Galaxy Xingyuan sold around 420,000 units in China in 2025, making it the country’s best-selling car overall. Its domestic price in China ranges from 64,800 to 94,800 yuan, approximately €8,200 to €12,000 at current exchange rates. By the time it reaches Europe, manufacturing costs, homologation, dealer margins and tariffs push that price considerably higher, but the underlying product has been proven at enormous scale.

The car is also assembled outside China in several markets. In Belarus it is produced locally. In Brazil, it is manufactured at a Renault plant, reflecting the deepening industrial relationship between Renault and Geely. The European version will likely be imported from China initially, and Geely has not confirmed a European production arrangement for the E2.

Geely Auto reported record overseas sales in the first half of 2026, with the brand expanding steadily across European and other international markets. The E2 is central to that expansion strategy, giving Geely a competitive product at the most price-sensitive end of the European EV market.
