XPeng has begun rolling out its XOS 5.9.5 software update worldwide, bringing more than 50 enhancements across ten vehicle systems to four models: the G6, G9, P7+ and X9. The update reached UK registered G6 owners on August 18, when XPeng UK highlighted the cabin cooling features specifically, though the same update is reaching XPeng owners across 64 markets in total.
Testing for XOS 5.9.5 began through XPeng’s beta programme back in May, with several European owner forums and outlets reporting on the feature list well before the wider release. A broader international rollout had originally been expected by the end of June, so the version reaching cars now has been in the pipeline for a few months rather than arriving as a rushed response to any single market’s weather.
What does XPeng’s XOS 5.9.5 update include?
The update adds more than 50 enhancements across ten vehicle systems, including new cabin cooling options, an air filtration mode, a split screen mode for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi step voice commands, and a Pet Mode for animals left briefly in the car.
New Features
Most of the new features focus on the cabin’s climate system, managed through XPeng’s XCOMBO automation app. Ultra Fast Cooling activates once a driver gets in and the cabin exceeds a set temperature, dropping back to normal air conditioning once it’s cooled down. A new location based option lets owners tie cooling routines to specific parking spots rather than a blanket schedule, so a car left on a warm street can pre cool differently to one parked in a shaded garage. There’s also a quiet mode for pre cooling, which lowers fan and compressor noise for anyone who’d rather not announce the car’s presence to the whole street. Separately, the XFREEBREATH air filtration system claims to filter up to 99.9% of pollen and fine PM2.5 particles within five minutes of activation.
The rest of the update covers ground well beyond climate control. XPeng has added a split screen mode for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, support for stringing multiple voice commands together in one sentence, and a new Park Comfort mode that keeps cooling and infotainment running if the car detects someone still inside after parking. Pet Mode locks the doors and regulates temperature for pets left briefly in the car, with a message on the display letting passers by know the animal is being monitored.
Do owners need to do anything to get the update?
No, XPeng pushes the update automatically over the air, so no dealer visit or manual download is required.
The timing tells its own story. XPeng UK’s announcement frames the update around helping drivers cope with hot weather, and this summer has really been a warm one: the Met Office has confirmed 2026 is on course to be the UK’s hottest summer on record, with temperatures reaching 38.1°C in London on August 13. But the update itself only reached UK cars on August 18, close to the end of meteorological summer, after most of the season’s heat has already passed, and the same features are landing in dozens of other markets with no such framing attached. Owners might not get much use out of Ultra Fast Cooling before autumn kicks in, but that doesn’t make the update itself pointless. It just means next summer is when it’ll really earn its keep.
The G6 remains one of XPeng’s higher volume models in Europe, built locally at Magna Steyr’s Austrian plant to avoid the EU’s tariffs on Chinese made imports, and sold in the UK through International Motors’ dealer network. I’ve covered the model’s European specifications and pricing in more detail separately in my full look at the G6’s European lineup.
XPeng says the update is being pushed out automatically, so existing G6 owners in supported markets don’t need to do anything to receive it. Beyond the cooling features getting most of the attention, it’s a fairly typical incremental software update for the brand, the kind XPeng has issued several times a year since 2024, rather than a standalone product launch.
