Xpeng has confirmed UK deliveries of the X9 will begin in Q3 2026, with the seven-seat electric MPV available in three variants priced from £74,990. It’s the brand’s second model in the UK, following the G6 which arrived as Xpeng’s first UK model last year, and it takes the brand into considerably more expensive and more specialist territory. The X9 has been on sale in China and several other European markets for some time, and the UK launch completes what has been a gradual westward rollout.

Xpeng has been building momentum across Europe. A record month in Germany demonstrated that the brand can convert interest into registrations when the product and pricing are right. The X9 is a different kind of proposition from the G6, aimed at a smaller, more specific buyer, but it arrives at a moment when Chinese manufacturers are increasingly embedded in the European market and the X9 has already built a reputation in China as one of the more serious attempts at a premium electric people carrier.

What Kind of Car Is the X9?

The X9 is a large, seven-seat electric MPV. Xpeng describes the design as Starship-inspired, which is a description that makes more sense when you see the exterior: a coupe-style roofline on a van-proportioned body, low drag coefficient, flush handles, an active grille shutter for aerodynamic management and what Xpeng calls stationary emblem wheel hubs, where the Xpeng logo stays upright regardless of wheel rotation. It’s an unusual design approach for the class, and it does look genuinely different from other electric people carriers currently available in Europe.

Inside, the emphasis is on the second row. The two captain’s chairs recline deeply, have 14-way electric adjustment, ventilation, heating and massage, and one-touch entry from the third row. The third row folds electrically at the touch of a button, and with all three rows in use, Xpeng says the submerged boot design accommodates seven suitcases. With the third row folded, cargo volume reaches 2,554 litres. There’s a flat, step-free floor throughout the cabin, a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, a built-in refrigerator and freezer, and 27-speaker HiFi audio. The dual-chamber air suspension adjusts ride height automatically by speed and includes an AI chassis system that reads the road up to 30 metres ahead to pre-adjust damping.

Three Variants, One Powertrain Architecture

All three UK variants share the same 800V architecture, enabling a peak DC charge rate of 542 kW and a 10-80% time of 12 minutes. That charging speed is one of the headline claims for the X9 in a class where rivals typically charge significantly slower.

The Standard Range and Long Range are both front-wheel drive, using a single 235 kW (320 hp) motor with 450 Nm of torque. The Standard Range covers 534 km (332 miles) on WLTP and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The Long Range extends WLTP range to 615 km (382 miles) and clips 0-100 km/h to 7.75 seconds. The AWD variant adds a rear motor for a combined 370 kW (503 hp) and 640 Nm of torque, hitting 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds with a WLTP range of 579 km (360 miles).

The X9 also has active rear-wheel steering, which reduces the effective turning circle at low speeds, useful for a car of this size in urban environments.

Technology and Safety

The X9 runs Xpeng’s XOS cockpit system on a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, with a separate 21.4-inch rear passenger screen and a streaming rear-view mirror. Six-zone voice control operates across the cabin, including hands-free commands from the rear seats. OTA updates are supported.

Driver assistance uses Xpeng’s XPilot system, powered by the XP5 Turing chip, covering adaptive cruise control, lane centring, auto lane change and intelligent parking. The X9 was designed to Euro NCAP five-star standards, includes nine airbags, a 2,000 MPa ultra-high-strength safety cage and enhanced battery protection with thermal and collision management. Euro NCAP testing results for the specific UK variant had not been published at time of writing.

Who Is This Car For, and What Does It Compete With?

At £74,990 to £84,990, the X9 is positioned firmly in the premium end of the seven-seat EV market in Europe. Its closest rivals are the Maxus Mifa 7 and Mifa 9, which offer seven seats at more accessible price points, and the Mercedes EQV and Zeekr 009, which sit in similar premium territory. A broader comparison of Mercedes GLB Electric and Chinese seven-seat EVs is worth reading if you’re cross-shopping in this segment. The X9 undercuts the Mercedes EQV significantly while offering more technology and faster charging.

The UK launch is being managed through International Motors, the same Stellantis-linked distributor handling other Xpeng UK operations. Registrations of interest are open at the UK’s official webpage.
