Onvo, Nio’s-sub brand, is set to arrive in Europe next year. Nio, a Chinese EV manufacturer, is struggling to gain traction here with its own models, so it is now adjusting its strategy by introducing more affordable, family focused EVs under the Onvo name. There is also a rumour on Twitter that Onvo models could be sold in Europe under the Nio badge, although that has not been confirmed yet.
At the moment, Onvo has two models available in China, the L60 and L90, with the L80 expected to join the lineup later this year. The L60 will be the first to launch in Europe, and its success will likely determine whether the rest of the lineup follows. Here is what to expect from Onvo.
Onvo L60 – Affordable Tesla Model Y Rival
The Onvo L60 is a mid-size electric SUV aimed directly at one of the most competitive segments in Europe: affordable family EVs. Designed to challenge the Tesla Model Y, it focuses on efficiency, space, and value. I recently wrote a piece on Tesla Model Y alternatives in Europe, so check it out if you’re in the market for a new family SUV.

In China, the L60 starts at around €21,500, making it one of the most aggressively priced electric SUVs in its class. It is offered with multiple battery options and a strong focus on efficiency, with a claimed range of up to 560 km WLTP (730 km CLTC) depending on configuration.
Built on a modern 900V architecture, the L60 supports ultra-fast charging and Nio’s battery swap system, which may not be introduced in Europe, as swap stations are still limited and the concept has so far seen low interest among European buyers. Performance varies from a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup to dual-motor all-wheel drive versions with up to 456 hp, making it both practical and surprisingly quick for its price range.

Onvo L90 – Large 7-Seater Electric SUV
The Onvo L90 moves into the larger SUV category, targeting buyers who need serious interior space and long-distance comfort. Positioned as a full-size electric SUV, it will compete with models like the Kia EV9, but is expected to undercut it on price. Although the same was expected from Firefly, it ended up being quite expensive (around €30,000) in the Netherlands and Norway.

The L90 is starts at €22,400 in China when using Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model. The standard model comes with an 85 kWh battery, offers up to 500 km of WLTP range (605 km CLTC), and is priced from around €33,000. European pricing is still up in the air, but hopefully Nio has learned from its earlier mistakes.
Where the L60 focuses on efficiency and affordability, the L90 is built around space and comfort. It offers six- and seven-seat configurations, making it suitable for larger families or users who frequently travel with passengers. Power outputs can reach up to 599 hp in dual-motor versions, placing it firmly in the performance SUV category despite its family-oriented design.
