Over the past few years, we’ve seen a wave of Chinese electric cars hit the European market. The Chinese were quick to figure out—well ahead of Europeans (and especially Americans)—that EVs are the future, and that’s why they’re still a couple of steps ahead of the competition. Names like BYD, Zeekr, and Xpeng have already earned a solid reputation with some seriously competitive models, and by now we’re used to reading about them. We’ve also grown accustomed to new Chinese brands suddenly popping up in Europe with surprisingly strong line-ups.

But what happens when a Chinese vacuum cleaner company shows up on the scene and throws down the gauntlet to none other than Bugatti?

A Chiron Doppelgänger?

Dreame, the company best known for making vacuum cleaners, now wants to build what it claims will be the fastest electric car in the world. Here’s where things get interesting. Dreame has shown off renders of its upcoming hypercar, and the design looks almost identical to the Bugatti Chiron. The stance, the curves, even the signature horseshoe grille—it’s all there. On one hand, this gives Dreame instant supercar vibes. On the other, it reinforces an old stereotype: that Chinese carmakers copy before they create.

And that’s a shame, because in recent years Chinese EV makers have worked hard to shake off that reputation. Brands like Nio and Xpeng are finally being celebrated for originality and innovation. Dreame’s Chiron lookalike feels like a step backward in that respect. Copying a Bugatti might help them learn how to build a car, but it won’t win them much respect.

Building Speed in Germany

Dreame isn’t just trying to impress on paper—it’s also serious about credibility. That’s why the company has chosen Germany as the place to build its hypercar. Setting up shop in the heart of Europe’s automotive world is a bold move, and it signals that Dreame wants to play by the same rules as the big names. German engineering standards paired with Chinese electric motor know-how could, at least in theory, be a recipe for something special.

Can a Vacuum Maker Really Build a Hypercar?

That’s the question everyone’s asking. On the surface, it sounds absurd. But then again, Tesla started out as a tiny Silicon Valley startup, and today it dominates global EV sales. Tech companies stepping into cars is becoming the norm rather than the exception. Dreame’s challenge will be proving that it can deliver a car that’s not just fast on paper, but one that earns genuine respect in the hypercar world.

If nothing else, Dreame has already succeeded in one way: it’s got people talking. Whether the car ends up being a genuine rival to the Bugatti Veyron or just a flashy experiment, Dreame has managed to put itself right in the middle of the EV spotlight.
