MG has started delivering the 07 to dealerships across China ahead of a July 29 pre-sale opening, and the numbers it’s bringing to the table are hard to ignore. We covered this model earlier when it was first announced, including what its Porsche Taycan-inspired design and 800V platform mean for MG’s positioning in the dedicated MG 07 article here. Now that production cars are arriving in showrooms and pricing targets have been confirmed, there’s more to say.

The 07 is a large electric fastback sedan at 4,886 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,478 mm tall, on a 2,825 mm wheelbase. SAIC MG is pitching it as a technology showcase: semi-solid-state battery technology, dual platform options (400V and 800V), LiDAR-assisted driving on higher trims and a 697-litre boot with a 109-litre frunk. The pre-sale price targets range from below 150,000 yuan (around €19,000) to below 180,000 yuan (around €22,800), though final retail prices won’t be confirmed until July 29.

Two Platforms, Two Very Different Cars

The 07 lineup splits into two distinct architectures rather than offering one platform in different trims, and the difference matters.

The 400V entry variant uses a rear-mounted 176 kW (239 hp) motor paired with a 67 kWh semi-solid-state battery. The claimed range is 610 to 650 km. CLTC figures tend to be optimistic compared to what you’d see on European roads, so a WLTP-equivalent for the 610 km variant would realistically sit somewhere between 450 and 500 km.

The 800V top variant uses a 235 kW (320 hp) rear motor, a CATL ternary NMC battery and a claimed 840 km of range. That’s an extraordinary number, even for CLTC, and a WLTP equivalent would be in the region of 630 to 670 km if the figure holds up. The 800V variant also supports 5C fast charging, though MG hasn’t disclosed the peak kW figure or a standardised 10-80% time. For context on NMC versus LFP chemistry and what it means in everyday use, that’s worth a read before drawing conclusions.

All versions come with mCDC intelligent electromagnetic suspension with AI preview functionality, which reads the road ahead and pre-adjusts damping. The entry 400V variant includes LiDAR. The 800V flagship adds the Momenta R7 assisted-driving system with urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and parking-to-parking assisted driving.

The Technology That Matters and the Technology That Probably Won’t Make It to Europe

The Momenta R7 assisted driving system with urban NOA is genuinely impressive on paper, and LiDAR as standard on the entry trim is unusually generous at this price point in China. But both of these features are almost certainly China-only, at least initially.

European regulatory requirements for autonomous and semi-autonomous driving systems differ significantly from China’s. Geofencing, mapping approvals and the specific sensor setups required for NOA in European urban environments are all separate processes from Chinese certification. Even manufacturers with deep resources, like Xpeng and Nio, have found that the assisted-driving features available in China require substantial adaptation before they work in Europe. For the MG 07, if it does arrive here, expect a more basic Level 2 driver assistance suite at launch rather than the Momenta R7 experience available in China.

The same caveat applies to some of the connectivity features tied to Chinese ecosystems. The HiCar integration and Haier smart home connectivity will be replaced with CarPlay and Android Auto equivalents for European markets, as is standard practice.

What should carry over without issue: the powertrain, the battery technology, the suspension system, the interior hardware and the physical specifications. The semi-solid-state battery in the 400V variant is particularly interesting for European buyers because it represents a step toward the next generation of cell chemistry without requiring a full solid-state platform.

Where This Fits for European Buyers

If the MG 07 makes it to Europe at prices anywhere near the Chinese targets, it becomes an interesting alternative to the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3 in the large fastback sedan segment. At below €20,000 equivalent for the entry variant in China, the European price would be higher after homologation and other costs, but it could still land below the competition on price if MG’s existing European pricing strategy for other models is any guide.

If you’re looking for an MG that’s available in Europe right now and won’t break the budget, the MG4 Urban is among the best-buy EVs I’ve highlighted. If it’s the premium end of MG’s European ambitions you’re following, the IM5 is worth a look as a point of comparison for where the brand is heading.

FAQ

What is the MG 07?
The MG 07 is a large electric fastback sedan from SAIC MG, measuring 4,886 mm long with a 2,825 mm wheelbase. It comes in 400V and 800V variants with claimed ranges of up to 840 km under Chinese test conditions.

What does 840 km range mean for European drivers?
The 840 km figure is almost certainly measured under the CLTC standard, which is used in China and tends to produce higher figures than the WLTP standard used in Europe. A realistic WLTP-equivalent estimate for the 840 km variant would be around 630 to 670 km. The 610 km entry variant would translate to approximately 450 to 500 km WLTP.

What is semi-solid-state battery technology?
Semi-solid-state batteries use a partially solidified electrolyte rather than the fully liquid electrolyte in conventional lithium-ion cells. This can improve energy density and reduce fire risk compared to standard liquid electrolyte batteries, while being more manufacturable than true solid-state cells. The 67 kWh battery in the 400V MG 07 uses this technology.

Will the LiDAR and Momenta R7 assisted driving be available in Europe?
Almost certainly not at launch, if the MG 07 comes to Europe at all. The Momenta R7 system with urban NOA is certified for Chinese roads and would require significant adaptation for European regulatory approval. A standard Level 2 driver assistance system would be the realistic expectation for a European version.

Is the MG 07 confirmed for European markets?
No. SAIC MG has not announced European availability or pricing for the MG 07. Given MG’s existing European presence and the 07’s positioning, a European launch is plausible but not confirmed.
