According to an article by CarNewsChina, Changan’s Deepal brand has launched its L06 sedan. Deepal, already active in Europe with the Deepal S05 and S07 models, presents the L06 as a sophisticated mid-size EV. Reports suggest Mazda’s upcoming 3e will be based on the L06 architecture, giving Mazda access to advanced hardware while contributing its own design and driving character. For a detailed rundown on the Mazda 3e, see this link.

Design and Size

The Deepal L06 was officially unveiled in September 2025 with a sleek, coupe-like silhouette. It spans about 4,830 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and has a 2,900 mm wheelbase, putting it in the mid-size sedan category.

At the front, its “blooming petal” headlights draw inspiration from ice crystals and orchids, while the rear sports a subtle ducktail spoiler and a full-width LED strip. Inside, the car features a T-shaped dashboard layout, a large central touchscreen, and an Augmented Reality head-up display (AR-HUD) that spans 50 inches, offering futuristic cockpit functionality.

Battery, Range and Power

Under the hood, the L06 offers two main powertrain options. The pure-electric version delivers 200 kW (268 hp) to the wheels, and can be paired with either a 56.12 kWh or 68.82 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Depending on the pack, the claimed CLTC range is 560 km or 670 km, respectively.

There is also an extended-range (EREV) option: a 1.5 L gasoline engine works as a generator, combined with a 175 kW motor and a 28.39 kWh battery, giving a pure-electric range of around 180 km. Charging-wise, the L06 supports a 3C ultra-fast charging rate, enabling rapid energy recovery. According to its developer, about 330 km of range can be added in just 15 minutes.

Perhaps its most striking technological feature is the world-first automotive-grade 3-nanometre cockpit chip, which powers infotainment, driver-assist systems, and the AR-HUD. Every L06 variant also comes with roof-mounted LiDAR sensors, hinting at strong ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) capability. Another standout is its magnetorheological suspension system — the same kind of magnetic ride technology used in some supercars like Ferrari, which promises improved ride comfort and handling.

Competitors

Given its size, performance, and technology, the Deepal L06 will compete in the premium EV sedan segment. It is likely to rival European and Chinese models such as the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, Polestar 2, and possibly the upcoming Mazda 3e, which is expected to share its platform.

FAQ

Is the Deepal L06 already on sale in Europe?
Not yet. Deepal’s European presence is growing, but the L06 is currently being launched in its home market with plans to expand later.

What makes the L06’s 3nm chip special?
The 3nm chip is the most advanced cockpit-grade semiconductor seen in a production car, designed to power the car’s infotainment, safety systems, and the 50-inch AR head-up display with high efficiency.

What kind of suspension does the L06 use?
It uses a magnetorheological (magnetic) ride suspension system, which adjusts damping in real-time using magnetic fluid, a technology often found in high-end sports cars.

What are the powertrain options for the L06?
There is a pure-EV version with either a 56.12 kWh or 68.82 kWh battery, or an extended-range version that uses a 1.5 L gasoline engine combined with an electric motor.

Is the Deepal L06 related to Mazda’s future EVs?
Yes. Reports suggest that Mazda’s upcoming 3e EV will be based on the L06 platform, enabling Mazda to use Changan’s advanced EV architecture while applying its own styling and driving dynamics.
