Leapmotor, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup backed by Stellantis, achieved a major milestone in May 2025 when it delivered 45,067 vehicles, marking the highest monthly sales volume in its history. This performance demonstrates a notable 9.82 % month-over-month growth and represents a 148 % surge compared to May 2024, reflecting the brand’s rapid ascent in China’s competitive NEV (new energy vehicle) market.

The Leapmotor C10 leads the way

A primary driver of this record is the newly refreshed Leapmotor C10 SUV, introduced in mid-May. This model has been well-received for its compelling value proposition, contributing more than 13,000 units sold in just a few weeks—a testament to consumer demand for stylish and affordable EV SUVs.

Leapmotor’s diverse lineup, which now includes six EV models ranging from compact city cars to family-friendly SUVs, has also helped broaden its customer base. The momentum from March through May 2025 underscores the company’s consistent upward trajectory.

Leapmotor Sales Surge Compared to 2024

Leapmotor sold 173,658 vehicles during the January–May period of 2025—a 161 % increase compared to the same five months in 2024. The company has set an ambitious full-year delivery goal of 500,000–600,000 units, aiming to more than double its 2024 volume of 293,724 vehicles.

Another key factor fueling Leapmotor’s momentum is production capacity strengthened through its partnership with Stellantis. In October 2023, Stellantis acquired a 20 % stake in Leapmotor and formed Leapmotor International (51 % owned by Stellantis), securing rights to export, sell, and manufacture its models globally.

Leapmotor’s European Expansion Strategy

Leapmotor is aggressively scaling into Europe through its Stellantis-backed joint venture, Leapmotor International, formally established in May 2024. The brand started exporting the T03 city car and C10 SUV to nine initial markets—Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Romania—with sales launching in September 2024 and UK entries following in early 2025.
