The new MG4 is essentially the latest version of the familiar MG4 Electric, and it has now arrived in Europe this year. What makes it especially interesting is that it costs more than the larger MG4 Urban and MG5S, both of which are bigger and more spacious than the MG4 EV, while MG’s pricing strategy becomes even more puzzling in Germany, where the car starts at a hefty €42,990.
Main specs
The MG4 EV comes in three trims: Premium Long Range with a 64 kWh battery and 140 kW motor, Premium Extended Range with a 77 kWh battery and 180 kW motor, and XPower AWD with a 64 kWh battery and 320 kW motor. Depending on the version, range goes up to around 545 km (338 miles), while the more powerful XPower version adds serious performance to the mix.

It has a rather mediocre 363‑litre boot that expands to 1,177 litres with the seats down, no frunk, and a solid five‑star Euro NCAP rating that it shares with its predecessor.
MG4 Price
MG’s decision to position the MG4 EV in Volkswagen ID.4 territory is strange enough, but making it significantly more expensive than the Tesla Model Y in Germany, where the Model Y currently starts at €37,970, makes the strategy look even harder to justify. In most European markets, this is still a good-value EV, but Germany is clearly the odd one out.
| Country | MG4 Price |
|---|---|
| Germany | €42,990 |
| Belgium | €33,490 |
| Netherlands | €33,950 |
| United Kingdom | £29,995 (€34,450) |
| France | €27,490 |
MG4 EV range and battery options?

Is MG4 EV cheaper than Tesla Model Y in Europe?
Yes everywhere except Germany, where Model Y starts at €37,970 vs MG4’s €42,990 – strange for a smaller hatchback.
What’s the MG4 EV price in Germany?
Germany hits you with €42,990 for the base MG4 EV – that’s pricier than France (€27,490) or UK (£29,995/€34,450), bizarrely putting it in VW ID.4 league instead of budget EV territory.
