Leapmotor has expanded its European line-up with the introduction of the B05, unveiled at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The company, which already offers models such as the T03 city car and the C10 SUV in Europe, is now adding a compact hatchback designed to sit in the popular C-segment. In its domestic market, the Leapmotor B05 will be marketed under the name Lafa 5.

Exterior Design and Dimensions

The car follows Leapmotor’s “Tech-Nature Aesthetic” design language, with smooth lines, frameless doors, and a full-width LED light signature. Measuring 4,430 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm, the B05 offers proportions that make it competitive with established compact EVs. Its styling gives it a slightly more dynamic appearance compared to some of its segment rivals.

Platform and Powertrain Options

New regulatory filings from China’s MIIT further refine technical details. The B05 is built on the company’s LEAP 3.5 platform, the same architecture used for other B-series models. Initial information pointed to two drivetrain configurations: one with a 132 kW motor and a 56.2 kWh LFP battery, and another with a 160 kW motor and a 67.1 kWh LFP battery.

According to CnEVPost, however, the B05 will be offered with a single-motor setup rated at 160 kW, a top speed of 170 km/h, and a curb weight ranging between 2,040 and 2,090 kg. The filings also note the use of LFP batteries supplied by manufacturers including CATL, CALB, Gotion High-tech, and Zenergy.

Production and Market Rollout

Production and sales schedules are gradually being set. In China, pre-sales began shortly after the Munich debut, with deliveries planned for the first half of 2026. For Europe, manufacturing will take place at Stellantis’ plant in Zaragoza, Spain, starting in the third quarter of 2026. This arrangement reflects Leapmotor’s cooperation with Stellantis and aims to facilitate smoother access to the European market.

What the B05 Could Mean for Consumers

The compact EV market in Europe is already packed with choices like the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4, and BYD Dolphin. Now, with the Leapmotor B05 joining the mix, buyers might be the real winners. When a new player steps in, it usually means more competitive pricing and better value, as carmakers try harder to catch attention. It can also push established brands to improve what they’re offering — whether that’s longer range, nicer interiors, or smarter tech. So, while the B05 itself looks like a promising option, its arrival could also help bring down prices and raise quality across the board, which is good news for anyone considering an EV in this segment.
