Great Wall Motor (GWM) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer established in 1984. The company boasts several automotive brands, including the EV brand Ora. Ora vehicles are available for purchase in the United Kingdom, where they were previously marketed as the Ora Funky Cat. Following a rebranding effort, the Funky Cat is now being sold as the GWM Ora 03. Additionally, Great Wall Motor has recently announced the Sar Mecha Dragon, a luxury electric sedan featuring an intriguing design and cutting-edge specifications.
About the Mecha Dragon
The Mecha Dragon targets the luxury segment, where car manufacturers achieve the widest profit margins. Apart from its captivating design and luxurious features, the Mecha Dragon boasts impressive performance capabilities. It is equipped with All-Wheel Drive and dual motors, delivering a maximum power of 400kW and peak torque of 763Nm.
With acceleration from 0-100 km/h in under 3 seconds and a range slightly exceeding 800 km, courtesy of its 115 kWh battery, the car offers remarkable performance. Moreover, it supports rapid 480 kW charging technology, although finding chargers capable of such speeds remains a challenge. In Europe, Tesla possesses the most reliable charging network, yet its stations are limited to a maximum speed of 250 kW.
Additionally, the Mecha Dragon features a touch of nostalgia with its Harman Kardon sound technology. Capable of simulating sound effects such as ignition, acceleration, full throttle, half throttle, and deceleration, it mirrors the auditory experience of traditional internal combustion engines. This aggressive sound profile mirrors the sportiness and performance ethos of this vehicle. The suggested retail price in China is expected to be around 70,000 USD.
Fun fact: The Mecha Dragon was unveiled in November 2021 and was initially intended for launch under the Saloon brand. However, Great Wall Motors (GWM) has since abandoned the Saloon brand and incorporated the car into the Ora lineup.
