The United Kingdom has been selected as the entry point to the European market for the Chery Omoda E5, an electric SUV designed to compete with the likes of the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS, offering an affordable option in this segment. According to the official website, the Omoda E5 is scheduled to be launched this month, alongside its petrol version.

About the Chery Omoda E5

Europe is indeed an attractive market for Chinese EV manufacturers, and Chery recognizes the opportunity for growth. In addition to the UK, Chery plans to expand its presence to key markets such as Germany, Italy, France, and Spain. The Omoda E5 is just one of the Chery EVs slated for launch in these markets. Furthermore, Chery is contemplating the possibility of establishing an assembly plant in Europe, dependent upon achieving significant sales volumes.

The Chery Omoda E5 features a single 150kW electric motor paired with a 61 kWh battery pack, providing a driving range of up to 430 km according to the WLTP standard. Its power consumption is rated at 15.5 kWh/100 km, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. Interestingly, the specifications for the BYD Atto 3 are almost identical, and it appears that the pricing will also be similar. The expected price for the Chery Omoda E5 is around 35,000 euros, which aligns with the price of the Atto 3 as well.

And what one can expect when there are two or three almost identical cars in the market, targeting the same audience? It seems the price war that has already started in China is going to soon spill over to Europe, too. From the consumer perspective, there is no better scenario.
