According to a recent report by Electric Vehicles, Nio has officially begun delivering its electric vehicles in Austria, offering models from both its main Nio brand and the newly introduced Firefly lineup. The move marks another step in Nio’s gradual expansion across Europe and shows the company’s intention to compete in multiple EV segments.

Nio Strengthens Its European Expansion

Austria is the latest European market to receive Nio electric vehicles. Customers can now take delivery of both premium Nio models and more affordable Firefly cars. Rather than opting for a single large launch, Nio continues to expand market by market, adapting its approach to local regulations and consumer expectations.

Sales and aftersales services in Austria are handled through local partners, allowing Nio to focus on brand presence while ensuring customer support from the start.

Firefly Brings a More Affordable Entry Point

The Firefly sub-brand is aimed at buyers looking for a compact and more accessible electric car. In Austria, Firefly models are priced below €30,000 before incentives, putting them in direct competition with other entry-level EVs available in the market.

By introducing Firefly alongside its premium offerings, Nio is clearly broadening its appeal, targeting first-time EV buyers as well as customers who prioritise value and practicality.

Nio Brand Models Focus on the Premium Segment

At the same time, Nio has started delivering its higher-end electric vehicles in the country. These models sit in a premium price bracket, with starting prices above €50,000, and focus on design quality, performance and advanced digital features.

It was revealed that Nio’s lineup there in will include its two entry-level models, the ET5 and ET5 Touring, along with the EL6 SUV. The ET5 is priced from €59,990 in Austria, while the estate-style ET5 Touring starts at €60,990. The entry-level EL6 SUV begins at €64,990.

Nio continues to position its vehicles as technology-driven EVs, highlighting connected services and driver assistance systems as key selling points for local customers.

What This Means for the Austrian EV Market

Nio’s entry adds further competition to Austria’s growing electric vehicle market. With Firefly covering the affordable end and Nio-branded models targeting premium buyers, the brand is testing demand across a wide range of customer profiles.

For consumers, this means more choice, especially as Chinese EV manufacturers continue to gain confidence in entering European markets with competitive pricing and strong technology offerings.
