The Xpeng G6 has officially reached retailers across the United Kingdom, marking the Chinese automaker’s first step into the British market. The mid-size electric SUV combines fast-charging technology, modern interior features and a competitive driving range, placing it directly in one of Europe’s most popular EV segments.

While Xpeng has already begun expanding in parts of continental Europe, the G6 is the model chosen to introduce the brand to UK buyers. For drivers interested in new electric vehicle options beyond established brands, the arrival of the G6 adds another contender to the market.

A Careful Entry Into the UK and European Markets

The arrival of the G6 in showrooms means potential buyers can now see the vehicle in person and try it on the road. At the moment, however, the G6 is the first and only Xpeng model officially available in the UK.

In other European markets, the company already sells a broader range of vehicles, including the Xpeng P7, Xpeng P7+, the G6 and the larger Xpeng G9. Even so, Xpeng’s expansion across Europe has been fairly gradual rather than rapid.

One of the reasons for this measured approach is the intense competition the company faces at home in China. The domestic EV market is extremely crowded, with around one hundred electric vehicle manufacturers competing for customers. As a result, companies like Xpeng must balance international expansion with the ongoing battle for market share in their home market.

The UK also presents a slightly different situation compared with the European Union. Chinese electric vehicles imported into the EU face additional tariffs, while vehicles entering the UK do not currently face those same duties. That difference could make Britain an easier market for some Chinese EV manufacturers to enter. But somehow the UK is behind schedule when it comes to Xpeng, not sure why.

Fast Charging Built on an 800-Volt Platform

The G6 is built on Xpeng’s SEPA 2.0 electric vehicle platform, which uses an 800-volt electrical architecture designed to enable higher charging speeds and improved efficiency. Depending on the version, the SUV uses either a 66 kWh LFP battery for the standard range model or an 87.5 kWh NCM battery for long-range and performance variants. Under the WLTP cycle, driving range reaches up to 570 km (354 miles), depending on configuration.

When connected to a high-power charger and under ideal conditions, the battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 12 minutes. That kind of charging performance can make longer trips easier by significantly reducing time spent at charging stations.

Long Range RWD87.5 kWhNCM (Nickel Cobalt Manganese)570 km (354 miles)

The vehicle uses a lithium iron phosphate battery designed to offer good durability and efficiency, a battery chemistry that is becoming increasingly common among Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.

Range and Performance Options

The G6 is available with several powertrain configurations, giving buyers a choice between efficiency-focused and performance-oriented versions.

Rear-wheel-drive models prioritise range and everyday efficiency, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version adds extra performance with an additional motor on the front axle. Depending on the version, the G6 can deliver a WLTP driving range of up to around 326 miles, or roughly 525 kilometres.

This combination of range and charging speed is designed to make the vehicle suitable both for daily commuting and longer journeys.

A Modern Design With a Technology-Focused Interior

The G6 adopts a coupe-inspired SUV shape, with smooth body lines and a sloping roofline intended to improve aerodynamic efficiency. Like many modern electric vehicles, the design emphasises both efficiency and a clean, contemporary look.

Inside the cabin, the layout is minimalist and largely controlled through a large central touchscreen. A digital instrument display provides key driving information, while the infotainment system integrates navigation, connectivity features and driver-assistance technologies. The cabin also focuses on practicality, offering a spacious interior and a generous boot that should suit everyday use.
