Nio’s Firefly sub‑brand has announced a significant price drop in Norway, cutting the cost of its debut compact EV by around 17.9 percent just two months after the first deliveries. According to electric-vehicles.com, the reduction is part of a “Pre‑Christmas Offer” that applies to remaining inventory.

The original starting price for the Firefly in Norway was 279,900 Norwegian kroner, which converts to approximately €23,700. With the discount, the model now starts at 229,900 kroner, or about €19,500, offering a much more accessible entry point.

Why the Sudden Price Drop?

This price cut comes amid weaker-than-expected demand in Norway. Earlier targets for 2025 reportedly included 1,500 units across both Nio and Firefly, but registrations have so far fallen short. According to Nio’s Norway marketing head, the campaign is designed to “significantly reduce the inventory,” and it applies to about 85 cars still in stock.

When Firefly first launched in Europe, Norway was one of the earliest markets. All European versions so far are sold with the battery purchased, rather than offered on a battery‑rental plan, since Firefly’s battery swap or BaaS (Battery as a Service) options are not yet available in these markets.

The Firefly’s Place in Nio’s European Strategy

The Firefly is Nio’s attempt to reach a more affordable segment: smaller, tech-savvy urban buyers who might not want a larger EV. By offering decent range, a usable trunk and frunk, and modern safety, it competes more on practicality than luxury. But Nio also faces challenges. To make Firefly work in Europe, it needs to balance pricing with tariffs, local demand, and brand recognition.

UK Launch: What to Expect

Nio is pushing ahead with its Firefly expansion into right‑hand drive markets, and the UK is on the list. According to Nio and several media outlets, the Firefly is expected to launch in the UK in 2026. While the UK does not face the EU’s punitive import tariffs on Chinese EVs, that doesn’t necessarily mean a bargain: I have already explained why the price of the Firefly in the UK won’t be below €30,000, and I doubt it will ever come close to the prices that EVs generally have in Norway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Nio cut the Firefly price in Norway so soon?
The drop seems aimed at reducing leftover inventory after lower-than-hoped demand, bringing the price down to attract more buyers.

How much cheaper is the Firefly now in Norway?
The Firefly is now about €19,200, down from roughly €23,400 at launch.

Is this for all Firefly models or just certain ones?
This “Pre-Christmas Offer” applies only to remaining inventory, the 85 cars that are still unsold, according to Nio’s local team.

Yes, in Norway the Firefly is sold with the battery included. The European version does not offer Firefly’s battery rental (BaaS) or swap plan at present.
